For Japan With Love

I'm sure by now, we've all seen it.
Seen devastating photographs. Watched heart-wrenching footages.
And have thought, how helpless we are all.

But we can help.

For Japan With Love is also encouraging donations to ShelterBox. ShelterBox was one of THE first organizations asked by Japan to help and were on hand on the Saturday after the quake. Each large, green ShelterBox is tailored to a disaster but typically contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, water storage and purification equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items.

Please check it out and whatever you can contribute will be so appreciated.

As part of a college Rotaract Club, I've raised funds to donate to ShelterBox to help children in a third world country. Now, Japan needs our help.

MasterChef

I'm absolutely addicted to MasterChef. First saw Junior MasterChef Australia on Astro. And it was just great.

You don't get the drama and falsity that you would be expected to get from the average reality TV shows.
The junior version is filled with encouragements.

It puts me to shame that these kids can cook so well, yet I know some adults who can barely fry an egg properly.

I can't wait for the next season of it to arrive sometime this year.

Then we move onto the adult, seemingly more matured, version of MasterChef.
I started off with the USA version, with Gordon Ramsay as one of the judges. As we all know, with Ramsay there, we can't go without swearing. And I have to say, MasterChef USA is a total rip-off.

It was a pure competition, with no coaching, not much guidance along the way. It says they were out to find "The Best Amateur Chef in the country"; well, possibly that's true. But weren't they supposed to be coached to become better chefs? To elevate to a different level?

Compare that to the Australia version, they are worlds apart.

The Australia version actually gives MasterClasses to the contestants, who were also sent to restaurants to gain work experience. They have more than just a mere handful of challenges.

And, I like the judges better.. =)

I'm only onto season 1; and I'm learning so much from it.

~~Introduction~~

First thing first, a brief introduction of myself is called for. I'm just an ordinary 19 yr old undergraduate student currently studying in Malaysia, and awaiting to transfer to the US of A for a major in Molecular Biology. After which, if opportunity arises, will either go on the path to get a Masters and PhD in Oncology Research, or go into Medicine, specializing in Pediatric Oncology.

I play the guitar and piano; I love to read; music is a must in my life (fav male artists include Show Luo and JJ Lin, if you don't know who they are, please do yourself justice and google them!) AND oh! I absolutely love to bake!

So why the blog? Well, I have to say, after watching Julie and Julia, I was inspired. And adding to the fact that I love to stalk read other bakers' blogs, I thought I'll start one myself.

A few of the recipes I will put up are my own, most are other people's (and I will do my best to always list down my sources), and for some weird and wonderful reason, I can never resist not tweaking with a recipe, so do forgive me. =)
